Job Title: Substation Project Engineer

Job Location: Minneapolis, MN, New Gloucester, ME

Primary Function:

The Substation Project Engineer at our client is responsible for overseeing the Design and Engineering of substations from concept phase through final construction drawings and project completion.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The employee may be tasked with performing any or all of the following functions:

  • Perform Electrical Engineering work with a strong understanding of utility substation designs and standards.
  • Provide Electrical Design for projects including Relay Upgrades, Breaker Additions/Upgrades, Transformer Replacements, RTU Installations, and New Substations.
  • Provide Physical Design for projects such as Bus Additions, new Equipment Installations, and New Substations.
  • Define project scope, prepare project estimates and schedules. Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Prepare Specifications and Material Lists.
  • Oversee Preparation of Review Sets and Final Construction Sets.
  • Manage Project Close Out and As-Built revisions.
  • Consult with clients, utility personnel, manufacturers’ representatives, and others as needed.
  • Stay informed of latest developments in electric utility field related to substation design & construction; suggest improvements as necessary.
  • Act as Lead Engineer on assigned projects.
  • Conduct site visits for documentation as required by clients.
  • Visit construction sites to inspect work in progress or completed as required by clients.
  • Mentor and train Design Engineers, Designers, and Electrical CAD Technicians.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Electrical Engineering or a Senior Protection & Control Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications / Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
  • Professional Engineering License or Professional Certification desirable.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling software and spreadsheet programs.
  • Familiarity with applicable engineering codes.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires minimal physical effort, primarily involving prolonged periods of sitting and computer use. Occasional outdoor exposure to weather conditions and noise may occur. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally is required. Travel overnight for trainings and meetings may be necessary (approximately 10%).
